Subscribing to feeds
One of the coolest thing about browsing media files on Ourmedia is that you don't have to surf from item to item — the media can come to you.
With RSS (Really Simple Syndication), you can subscribe to any Ourmedia member's media feed, or to all the video, audio files, images or text works published by our members.
Step 1: To subscribe to a feed, you need a news reader, or news aggregator, in order to view the media works. Here's an article I wrote that explains RSS feeds and lists a number of free readers.
Step 2 is simply to subscribe to a feed by clicking on the orange XML button you see on the main media pages or a member's page. Don't click through to these pages or you'll see gibberish; just copy and paste the url into your news reader.
Some of the news readers in the article above will support works like video or audio (rather than just plain text), but it might be better to use a news reader built for rich-media feeds: FireANT.
Feed readers
Some good media feed readers are:
• Miro
• FireANT. Here's a screencast of how it works on PCs. FireANT can be downloaded here for both Mac and Windows.
