A tour of "Ahui O Manu," the vacation rental in Volcano Village we stayed at during our New Year's 2008 trip to the Big Island. Charming, rustic, surrounded by wild ginger, towering Ohia trees, and giant Hapu’u ferns, and located on the edge of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

iPhone in Hawaii

The "world premiere" of the Apple iPhone at the flagship Apple Store at Ala Moana Center in Honolulu. The store is closed up, the windows blacked out, and the wait begins. Eventually, claps and cheers as hundreds part with hundreds to own Apple's first mobile phone.

Hawaii State Legislature Opening Day

The Hawaii State Legislature kicks off each session with Opening Day ceremonies, featuring much pomp and circumstance, music, and food. Lots of food. While the speeches and music are a draw, and all the open doors at the State Capitol provide an excellent opportunity for lobbyists and activists to plead their case, most of the crowd packs the halls of government for the free lunch.

Magic Island (Videoblogging Week 2006: Day Four)

Posted for Videoblogging Week 2006. Inspired by yesterday's vlog by Roxanne of Beach Walks with Rox, I head down to Magic Island at Ala Moana Beach Park. Magic Island is a popular park for locals and visitors alike, with wide open spaces, lots of shade, placid waters, and a great view of Waikiki and Diamond Head. This week, though, the park has been taken over for the Honolulu Centennial Celebration, rescheduled to this weekend after recent heavy rains and flooding postponed just about everything in Hawaii. As crews set up for the festivities, a few people enjoy the park, and several Japanese couples take their Hawaii wedding photos. Enjoy, but don't go in the water.Extra special thanks to Wilfred N and the Grown Men for providing the music for today's video. The song, "I Never Get Tired of You," can be found on their album, Waiting for Luck To Come, available online.

Fort Street Mall (Videoblogging Week 2006: Day 2)

A top-to-bottom tour of Fort Street Mall in downtown Honolulu. Posted for Videoblogging Week 2006. A walk isn't particularly dangerous, but I did encounter a police cruiser, ambulance, and fire truck along the way. Note the PDA-toting Catholic bishop. Music is "Hypno" from Gravity by Artemis (Magnatune).

Wet Waikiki

Much to the dismay of Spring Break vacationers, Hawaii has been plagued by uncharacteristically bad weather for the last two weeks. Thunderstorms, heavy rains, floods, landslides, even tornados and hail. The tourist mecca of Waikiki has not escaped the gray skies, where you're now as likely to see umbrellas and ponchos as bikinis and surfboards. Music is "Puddlehopping" from Fall Submissions by AntiGuru (Magnatune).

LostCast - 2005-12-21

The Transmission: A Lost Fan Podcast. This special edition of "The Transmission" explores some of the many, many theories you've come up with to explain what's happening on the island. We discuss a few, and then include over 40 minutes of bonus listener comments. On top of that, we even cover some "Lost" goodies you might consider as last-minute Christmas gifts. And that's not all! For spoilerfreaks, we've got a great advance look at Mr. Eko's upcoming flashback. This is our longest episode yet, and hopefully one that can help you get a good "Lost" fix as we wait another three weeks for the next new episode.
