How to publish your video to the Web

To publish your finished video to the Web, you have literally hundreds of free options. YouTube attracts tens of thousands of new videos every day. The service converts your video into the Flash format; drawbacks are that your video is limited to 10 minutes, users cannot download it (all videos are streamed), and the site offers no option for publishing your work under a Creative Commons license.

Ourmedia is an open source solution that offers free storage and bandwidth through its partnership with the nonprofit Internet Archive. Another option is Blip.tv, which is especially popular with videobloggers.

To upload your video to Ourmedia or Blip, we recommend downloading the free SpinXpress program and following the steps under "Publish." (You must first register at the site.) Or, fill in the fields on the Blip or Ourmedia websites' publishing pages.

You also have a choice of hundreds of other video hosting sites, ranging from Revver — which shares revenues with its members — to Yahoo! Video, Google Video or Metacafe.

See the Learning Center's Terms of Service comparison before settling on a video hosting service.
