How to play media files

Ourmedia is an open media network, meaning that members can upload their media files in any format they'd like. Just keep in mind that the more obscure the format, the fewer users who will be able to see or hear your work.

Our philosophy is to encourage members to upload works that can be easily accessed and shared. Thus, we like MPEG-4 video (which can play on all major media players) better than video encoded in proprietary formats. But we’ll accept media in any format.

Downloading a media player

To play media, you need the appropriate software to play it. Fortunately, for years now all new computers come with pre-installed media players of one type or another.

If you try to play a piece of media on Ourmedia and it doesn't work, it may be that your computer doesn't have the free software application. Here is a guide to downloading of the major media players for the most recent versions of the Windows, Apple and Linux operating systems.
