My Page help

Your My Page is your member page will look. If you're logged in, you'll see a slightly different page than others will see.

How others see your member page

Currently, you should see:

• The view and edit tabs are visible only to you. You can't see these tabs on any other member's My Page, and they can't see these tabs on yours (unless you've shared your password with someone).

• The main rectangular area at the top of your My Page contains your photo and information about you. You decide what information to display here based on the fields you enter on the edit tab.

• Below the top area comes a listing of all the media you have published through Ourmedia.

• To the right of that is a list of members you have designated your buddy, and a list of members who have named you as their buddy.

• Below that comes your personal blog posts. If you'd like to see your blog posts on their own page rather than your Mx Page, just enter your user number (click on your Mx Page — it's the number at the end of the url).

Your account settings

On your My Page, click the edit tab at top. You'll see 3 choices: account settings, personal profile, professional profile. Select account settings.

The Username field is how you'll log into the site and how your identity will be displayed on your My Page, your blog posts, comments, etc.

E-mail address is how we communicate with you. Your e-mail address will not made public and will only be used if you wish to receive a new password or wish to receive certain news or notifications by e-mail.

Password is the password you enter in the top right navigation when you log into the site.

FOAF settings refers to Friend of a Friend, a standard that allows the easy transfer of personal information that you want to make public on more than one Web site. (Here is a FOAF Project FAQ, in case you're interested.)

Language settings don't mean much until we begin translating Ourmedia into other languages.

Internet Archive: To upload media on Ourmedia, you need to register at the Internet Archive or one of our other video hosting partners. When you do, enter the password you chose here just once (not your e-mail address or screen name), and you won't have to enter it again when you publish media.

Your e-mail address on Ourmedia and the e-mail address you use to register at the Internet Archive need to be the same. If you decide to change the e-mail address in your Ourmedia account settings, you must re-register at the Archive with the same e-mail address, or you won't be able to publish media to the Archive.

Private message settings: If you check the box to allow people to send you private messages, the words "Send [your name] a message" will appear in the top rectangle of your My Page.

Checking the second box, "Receive daily e-mail for unread messages," will activate a daily notification to go out to your e-mail address if you have an unread message waiting.

Text area settings: If you check the box to "Enable rich text editor while authoring," then you'll see the WYSIWYG editor when editing text, with buttons for bold, italic, adding links, etc.

Upload picture: Please upload a mugshot of yourself. A tightly cropped picture of just your face works best (well, for most people). For your My Page photo, the maximum dimensions are 150x85 pixels (anything larger won't work) and the maximum size is 50 Kb. You can change your photo at any time.

Block configuration: Leave the Navigation box unchecked. Trust us.

Comment settings: Some people like to enter a signer, or signature, after each of their posts. If you do, enter it here.

Personal profile

Full name: Please enter your full name for our records in case we need to contact you.

Home page: If you enter your home page url here, it will display on the media pages you publish. Soon we'll display your home page on your My Page.

Biography: Please say a little about yourself. This will be displayed on all the media pages you publish and, later on, on your My Page.

Phone number: In case we need to contact you.

Instant messaging: If you'd like to make your AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo or Jabber IDs public on your My Page, enter them here.

Address: In case we need to contact you.

Blog title and url: If you enter your main blog's name and url here, it will display on your My Page.

Motto: If you have a short expression or personal tagline that you'd like to see displayed on your My Page, enter it here.

Keywords: These "personal keywords" allow other users to filter user profiles by the information you've entered. If you enter "cooking," clicking on the "cooking" keyword will display all members with the same personal keyword.

Professional profile

Your title, organization and work home page (the url of your organization) will be displayed on your My Page.
