How to publish on Ourmedia
Registering
The first thing you need to get started is to quickly register on both Ourmedia and the Internet Archive or another one of our video hosting partners. It's free, quick and easy. Here's how.
Uploading media files
Once you have registered on both sites, you will immediately be able to publish video, audio, photos, text and more. Just go to My Controls in the left-hand navigation bar and select publish my media. The steps should be fairly self-explanatory.
Alternatively, you may select the Ourmedia Publisher tool, especially for files larger than 10 megabytes in size. That's important to know, because transferring large files like video via a Web interface is an iffy proposition.
Publishing to your personal blog
If you registered, congratulations — you get a free blog. Just go to My Controls and select Post to my blog. If you need more detailed directions, see How to blog on Ourmedia.
Naming conventions for media files
Select a unique title for the media file you want to publish. Don't add quotemarks to the title. You may not assign the same exact title to more than one media item, so be careful that you don't duplicate an existing file or your upload won't go through.
Tags
Tags are keywords that you attach to your media files, postings or membership profile. You assign keywords to a piece of media when you publish it. See Tagging for why they're important.
Required fields
When you publish a video, audio file, photo or other kind of media on Ourmedia, we require only a few fields: generally, name, title, copyright license, description, keyword or tag (here's why), and sometimes a media type.
Unlike other services, Ourmedia will store your files for free for decades to come, so please take a few extra moments to enter all relevant text fields during the upload process. Your children or grandkids may thank you one day.
